Local 633 wins 8 hours pay at 1 1/2 for UPS Freight Londonderry Driver
UPS Freight Londonderry /Teamsters Local 633 Driver Roger Martineau
had
more to celebrate than the Independence Day Holiday in July. It happened
that UPS Freight skipped Roger over on the Extra work that is performed
on
Sundays at 1 1/2. Under the National Master UPS Freight Agreement the
company has to go by seniority for extra work.
" I
know for a fact and through past experience as a non-union employee
that before, management would have just took out the broom and swept
this
whole thing under the carpet and I would not have seen one penny, as
they
did what they wanted, when they wanted. Now that we are Teamsters we
have
the financial backing of the Union and elected professionals to hold
the
company accountable, where as when we were on our own we had no power
at
all. Kevin took a bite and did not let go until I got paid in full. I
am
very pleased with the outcome and proud to be a Teamster." Said
UPS Freight
Driver/Teamsters Local 633 member Roger Martineau.
"Management
skipped Roger over and they paid him 8 hours at 1 1/2 his rate
for it and I made certain he was paid in full for the error, I encouraged
him to file the grievance. Maybe next time he'll be called or maybe he
won't, but he'll still be paid 8 hours @ 1 1/2 because He's a Teamster
now
and he has protection in the form of a legally binding Teamster Contract &
he as well as his co-workers now have someone always watching their backs
and the opportunity to make a better living for them and their families.
The guys & gals are starting to really understand what it means when
we say
it pays to be a Teamster. We are proud to represent all these professional
workers. Roger is extremely pleased and proud to be a Teamster!" Said
Teamsters Local 633 Business Agent Kevin Foley.
