2007 Legislative Update

SB 42- prohibiting smoking in restaurants, cocktail lounges, and certain enclosed public places. Passed Both Senate on 2/22/07 17-7, Passed House on 5/31/07 224-117. The bill was enrolled and will go into effect 90 days from its passage.

SB 216- relative to certification of employee organizations to represent public employees .Passed Senate 3/29/07 14- 10, Passed House 5/31/07 176-151 with amendment , Senate Committee concurred with amendment and is awaiting final approval of the Senate.

SB 88 - relative to public employee terms of employment, bargaining units, and dispute resolution. Passed the Senate 17-7 and was Laid on the Table by the House.

SB 92- relative to the definition of employee and clarifying the criteria for exempting workers from employee status. Passed Senate on a Voice Vote 4/12/07 Passed House with amendment on 6/6/07. Senate Committee Concurred and is awaiting final senate approval

HB 399- relative to variable rates of overtime. Was retained in the house committee.

HB 819- establishing a right to work act which provides for freedom of choice on whether to join a labor union. Killed in House 4/4/07

HB 923- prohibiting dog racing in New Hampshire and establishing a committee to make recommendations for mitigating the impacts of prohibiting dog racing. Killed in the house on 3/27/07 198-138

HB 653- relative to the determination of benefits, funding, and administration of the New Hampshire retirement system. Passed House 3/27/07 325-12 Passed the Senate on a voice vote. Bill is currently in a committee of conference.

SB 148 -relative to retirement system status for members of the university system police force. Passed senate on a voice vote 3/29/0 was killed by house on 5/16/07 204-126

    A change in the way overtime is calculated for commission salesmen
  3. Right To Work Legislation
  4. Employee Free Choice Act For Public Sector Employees:
    This Bill would make it easier for public sector employees to join the Union
  5. Gaming Bill – Video gaming at Rockingham and Seabrook Race Tracks
  6. Independent Contractors Legislation
    This bill would spell out certain criteria that would or would not make you an independent contractor. This bill would help with the organizing of FED-EX
    There are between 30 to 40 bills out of 1300 that may impact our members we are following. I will keep the Web Site updated as we receive more information and these bills move through the State House and the Senate.
